Do you provide shopping carts?
We do not lock our customers into proprietary shopping carts like some other web hosting companies. Instead, we provide you with tools and the services to implement your own carts that match your specifications.
What are Secure Socket Layers (SSL)?
Secure Socket Layers (SSL) are the cornerstone of E-Commerce as they allow you to encrypt data between your site and your viewer's browser. This means that anyone that was sitting in between your web site and your viewer on the Internet could no longer see what was being transmitted. SSL works with public key technology and therefore requires the web site to have a public key or certificate in order to work. The viewer does not have to do anything special to see your site.
What is shared SSL?
Shared SSL is a convenient way for you to save lots of money and still perform secure connections with your customers. With Shared SSL you do not have to worry about purchasing a digital certificate from a certificate authority, instead you just use our secure site. When you use our secure site, you no longer have to purchase a digital certificate and you now use our public key. For more information about using Shared SSL, go here; to enable Shared SSL for your site please contact our technical support team and mention the domain you would like to setup.
What is a digital certificate?
  What is a certifcate authority?
Digital certificates are public keys that have been assigned to a particular web site. To get a digital certificate you will need to purchase one from a Certificate Authority (CA) and they vary in price from $100-600 per year. The two most popular Certificate Authorities are Verisign and Thawte.
How do I get a CSR for my digital certificate?
In order for us to build you a CSR for our system we will need the following information from you:
  • Your domain name
  • 8 character password (try using numbers, lower case, and upper case letters)
  • Desired Bit Length for Key (512, 768, 1024), defaults to 1024
  • Your organization's legal name (use the same name you are going to provide in your application with your certificate authority)
  • Organizational Unit, we typically use "IT", but you can make it whatever you like.
  • Country
  • State/Province
  • City/Locality
  • Contact name (this will be made public to the world)
  • Email Address (this will be made public to the world, but it should be valid)
  • Phone Number (this will be made public to the world, but it should be valid)
After we receive this information, we will email a CSR that you can then give to your certificate authority. There is no charge for this service.
How do my visitors get my public key?
Whether you have purchased your own digital certificate or you are using our secure server the method for your public key distribution is the same. When your visitor visits the secure site the browser and the server exchange public and private keys automatically. There is nothing that you as the web site operator or your web visitor have to do.
How do I password protect my files/directories?
You can password protect a file, an entire directory or a directory tree simply by letting our support team know which file, directory or tree you want to protect and the user name for that object. If the user does not exist, then we will have to create one so please let us know the password you would like to use. It should be noted that each account is limited to the number of logins that are allowed. Bronze accounts are given one login which is the administrative user, Silver and other plans have additional users which can help you fine tune your protection schema.
Can I use FrontPage components on the shared SSL server?
No. You can not use FrontPage components or even use FrontPage to publish to the shared SSL server. The only way to access the Shared SSL server is to use FTP.
